The Saint Matthew Class frigates are an anti-air warfare variant of the Saint Joseph Class antisubmarine warfare frigates. The Saint Matthew Class features an AAW system using the Windermere Aerospace combat management system, the Elta EL/M-2248 MF-STAR AESA radar, the Thales SMART-L 3D volume search radar, and the Longsword family of missiles. The Longsword MR-SAM and LR-SAM as well as the C-Dome missiles are carried in the W-VLS vertical launch system, which was developed for the Saint Joseph and Saint Matthew classes. The lead ship of the class, the HMWS Saint Matthew, was commissioned in 2008. The Saint Matthew Class is primarily deployed with the two carrier battle groups of the Royal Windermere Navy.
