HMS Invincible on her way to the breakers.
I do note things have gone very quiet about Illustrious

Sad. But inevitable. I recall seeing her at Fremantle many years ago.

Interesting watching Discovey Program on Ark Royal the images of her docked down having the bottom welded and vents fixed. Made me wonder was this one of the reasons why the Ark & Invincible were retired early

One idea I've heard is that someone wants to buy Ark Royal to moor up the Thames as a heliport and use her as a hotel and restaurant.
Might be good for the 2012 Olympics...

Because they never received the needed maintenance in the late 90s and early 2000s. It didn't help that when the refit time came around there were only the funds to refit one of them (Illustrious).

It's always a shame to see such nice ships get cut up.

oh well at least she had a good life, the new defence cut is announced today. We will lose 4 Alkmaar class Mine Hunters, 2 Holland class OPV( there are not even commission yet)
Army lost all there tanks (two battalions), most of the air defence unites, some engineer companies and one air-mobile infantry battalion.
Air force lost 2 squadrons F-16 (well, not many of them flying anyway) and all Couger helicopters.
