The national ensign should probably be replaced with one of the official sized ones I drew based on the NavSource article.

I'd be interested in doing some of the late-war iterations when I have time. It would probably result in having to recolor the whole drawing, though, since I work with only 4 colors on my drawings - hope that's ok.

Ian, I'm fine with that, and, if you'd have any questions, please let me know, and I'll be more than happy to reach out. Yeah, I can consider doing the Chicago as of 1942/43, but , quite frankly am not that hyped about it. The Augusta as of Atlantic Charter Fame, yeah, maybe... And, as for coloring, yeah, have to, considering that their peacetime light grey was a thing of the past...

As for your flags, nothing wrong with them, except, they're kinda "lifeless". - I know, this is something that's entirely a personal, subjective matter. Maybe, when time permits, I'll modify the size 7 to have some more flow in it. I also wonder, since most prewar images does show flags of a larger size than yours, when the two standard sizes were brought into effect. I have, however, recolored the ensign according to the official color code. (Heck, I live in Texas, one of the most flag overbearing states in the US! - So I should know my flag!)

I don't consider myself an artist but rather a draftsman hence the nature of the flags. I wanted to make sure they had the exact dimensions. I can't remember when the flag sizes I made were introduced so very possible the prewar flags were larger (before the need for subdued insignia came about). I wouldn't worry about it honestly.

I think my camouflage sheet has the prewar light grey specified so it may be worthwhile to recolor even these drawings into that version of 5L. I'll check when I get home from the office to see if those colors were in use that early on. (edit: Never mind, my camouflage sheet covers the SHIPS-2 colors introduced in 1940, I'll see if I can find an accurate color reference for the commonly-referenced "prewar Light Grey")...

And re: late-war refits, totally understand not being super interested in a certain time period... the pre-war stuff with its lack of radar and whips and ECM gear doesn't do much for me but that's personal preference!

Yeah, that actually sounds good! Would it be a reference that I can easily apply for paint?(Since that's the application I have; not being at all that sophisticated...) Again, thank you for your help, it's much appreciated!

I'd probably just add it to the camouflage colors sheet here:

It's designed to have only 4 colors, which makes recoloring so much easier. There's a basic tone that has a light shade, a railing/rigging shade, and a dark shade for hull breaks and details that aren't quite big enough to be shown in black. No highlights in this scheme which is basically the traditional method passed down to us peons by MConrads himself. ;)

More masterpieces from the resident USN Master Artist? I can't wait! (Perhaps this will bring impetus to finish the series on USS Washington? :D)

The armor belt has been reshaded, into, what I believe is a muh more pleasing form. (Be patient, more ships to come, but family matters always has a knack of interferring; today my youngest went to the hospital, so bear with me...)

Armor belt looks better now. Before it looked like it had thickness to it, which it most certainly does not.

Yeah, I agree with the thickness thingy...I mean there was a certain amount of thickness, (5in) but certainly not too much, albeit you still can see the run of the armor belt clearly in pictures. Thanks btw!
