I can't see a floatplane being spotted on the amidships position (or at all). If anything it should be a large boat farm with a light crane.

I might have to change and/or move the crane in the last image.

That's ok TA, glad I could help.

Keep the same catapult and crane all through the series, just update the planes.

Replace the 3" by the funnel with a bucket of 1.1" AA for 1939, then replace with twin 40mm for 1942 drawing - add some single 20mm to 1942 drawing.

Having had a think about and decent look at your drawings, one thing you could do as a part of your series is one of the sisterships being converted to an AA cruiser.

Replace the 6" with twin 5"/38
Replace all single 3" with twin 40mm
Keep the aircraft and torpedoes (though you could replace the aircraft with another set or two of twin 40mm's or go for broke and put a big tub of quad 40mm to replace the aircraft.)
Add a few 20mm singles in buckets and own mounts where you can find space. The stern area was popular as dive bombers attacked from astern and ships needed to have guns there to knock them down.

Would it be necessary to keep the crane, even after the plane is removed?

You would still need the crane for the boats.

Alright cool. Would the ship need new gun directors for the 5" guns?
