Now for a more modern ship.
Built in 1965 as part of a large order by the Maritime Fruit Carriers, Haifa Israel the Avocadocore and other from the company, were credited to have been built with a possible conversion for armed merchant cruisers in mind. The Maritime Fruit Carriers was formed out of a small fishing company which in the late 1950's operated some large fishing vessels, and the idea of transporting chilled and frozen produce had its origin in those fishing factory ships. The Company had an agreement with Salén Rederierna of Sweden for chartering of its ships, but some of the ships remained under the company's flag. During the early 1970's the company went on to expand its fleet, with a large order for ships both in Britain and Norway, the British built ships were under the Red Ensign. The large investment along with a down turn of demand for reefer ships caused the collapse of the Maritime Fruit Carriers, 10 of its Red Ensign flagged vessel going to Cunard.
And so the Avocadocore
