The first and most important thing to decided is what you want the ship to do.
What kind of enemies will it be facing, will it operate as part of a task force, how much range does it need and at what speed, how much can I afford?
All those questions and a bunch of others have to be answered before before you begin designing it.

Hi ZootZoot :D What a welcome! Not that I disagree with the others - they have quite right - but I think you should have a welcome on board :D

Cheers mate.

I have done another design, it's based around the Type 45 destroyer but it's leaning more towards a light cruiser or heavy destroyer. It's not quite finished, still gotta add handrails et cetera and perhaps a better surface to surface capability.

What sort of radars would it have in addition to a very large anti air capability. Because it's based on a type 45, it's also leaning towards an anti air role, but I was hoping to make it a multi role warship like the Arleigh Burke destroyers.
The ones I could find are for Ticonderoga class cruisers, IE.
AN/SPY-1A/B multi-function radar
AN/SPS-49 air search radar
AN/SPG-62 fire control radar
AN/SPS-73 surface search radar
AN/SPQ-9 gun fire control radar
AN/SQQ-89(V)3 Sonar suite, consisting of
AN/SQS-53B/C/D Active sonar
AN/SQR-19 TACTAS Passive sonar
AN/SQQ-28 Light airborne multi-purpose system
AN/SLQ-32 Electronic Warfare Suite

Well, if you're going for future/next generation ships, your radars are probably going to be reduced to a single active phased array of one type or another.
Oh and RAM coating only have very limited effect on ships. It's great if you're a FAC or small corvette playing hide-n-seek in the Scandinavian archipelagos, but once you start moving it'll get wet and loose most of its radar reducing properties.

So a single phased array radar will cover all bases?
A vague comparison would be is it a jack of all trades but master of none?

your azipod is turned the wrong way, it makes no sense to equip 3 types of VLS, and it makes even less sense to equip both RAM and SEARAM. also, many of your parts seem familiar... is it possible that the original author was baghera?
It definitely was bagera3005. When I first saw this ship it was on DeviantART and I specifically recall an exchange between you and him in the comments section. He was before my time, though I can tell that he was the "take no criticism, reject all logical advise" type (I can tell why he didn't last long). Despite finding out that the design we see in the OP, and the design which spawned it, are crap, I fell in love with the design concept. I saved it in MS Paint, overhauled it, and gave it a veritable arseload of TLC. I followed Ace's advice by turning around the azipod, raising the bridge to give a view over the bow, and some other things. Then one day I did major overhauls on the vessel, putting on SPY-3 radars and LADS, increasing the throw weights, and making it nuclear. However I got a bit of a licking from Roan about how I cannot maintain both the throw weights and the systems with that hull size, so I scaled up the hull size to accommodate strike-length capabilities and throw weights, plus a sunk-in AGS mount and the resulting required blisters (which in turn required me to re-do the bow). Other changes include the addition of built-in LRAD panels and gun mounts on deck to deter knuckleheads in small craft, an elevated high-res camera mount to enhance he view over the bow following lengthening, two more azipods on mounts, another stabilization fin, and a redo of the sonar in the bow so it looked more like updated style and less like some bastardly horrid nose. Since it had strayed from the "missile barge" concept a bit, I decided to call it an Arsenal Cruiser. I'll post the drawing later on.
