Hey, I'm new to the forums and I have spent the best part of a day modifying a conceptual drawing of an Arsenal Ship, into something different. Ill be honest, the hull itself I found on google and I cant give you the artists name. The main alternations I have made were the turrets, the super structure and the CIWS/VLS systems.

[ img ]

Heres a short list.
Forward single turret moved forward.
Elevated, duel turret placed between Turret 1 and superstructure.
Superstructure raised to allow bridge clearance over the raised turret.
CIWS added.
Helicopter added on the rear - no hangar.
Added a rear duel turret.
Moved the rear two VLS closer to the ships edges.

I know its not much of a build, but I dont know where to start for my own warship.
All comments will be welcomed and taken onboard, although I might ask some technichal terms to be explained because I'm not very tech savvy.

your azipod is turned the wrong way, it makes no sense to equip 3 types of VLS, and it makes even less sense to equip both RAM and SEARAM. also, many of your parts seem familiar... is it possible that the original author was baghera?

my opinion is: if you want to 'change' an existing drawing, better pick one out of the archive and start over IMO..... as there isn't that much on this ship that makes sense. I wait for opinions from other bucketeers as well, though. also, looking at my own experience, it's best to start with an real ship, so you learn how an real ship looks and works.

The best thing to do Zoot is start a thread in sources and references forum asking for what ever you want to draw. Then scale it and trace over the top.You can do all that in MS paint.

Well, multiple VLS have been done in the past, especially by the Russian, and new (western) ships are being build with it, so it's obviously not without its merits.
Anyway, I think you'll be better of starting over from scratch.

Think about common things.
-Fire fighting equipment
-Good bridge view
-Funnel in good spot
-Man overboard equipment
-Rotation of guns
-Space for missiles below deck (no vls on a 1m high area)
-Good propulsion
-Good size (no top heavy/to long)
-Its type of class, and what it has to do (focus on it)
-Radar equipment tips should be asked if you dont know it. Attaching an apar and aegis togheter is a good welcome on this board these days (not)
