This question is related to building disasters rather than natural disasters, so the Amagi wrecked by earthquake would not count (and it was only 40k anyway). My hint was it was almost another 120,000 ton disaster.

Tell me what you think.

At first I thought of the Invincibles or some other battlecruiser classes, but they all weigh well below those 120.000T.

Only commissioned ships or units started but not completed are included?
The four Borodinos totaled 128.000T together, Although I could not think what could be a disaster about them, they were just victims of the Russian Revolution....

The five normandies perhaps? 125.000T together and a long life of 10 years as never finished (except from Bearn) hulks? Still, they are one of many designs killed by the end of WWI and the WNT.

You are in the right area BB1987. Sorry Emperor Andreas, the Tillmans never got off the drawing boards, the ships I am looking for were actually built. Think of groups of sisterships from about 110,000 to 130,000 tons.

So it would not be the Ugly sisters, only 3 of them for about 70k.

I'm confused, I've typed my response to this thread two days ago but somehow there is no message from me here.. weel, let's just type that again:

The only units that seemed to fit the 110.000/130.000T figure, unless I've stumbled upon faulty displacement figures on other classes (which could still be a possibility), would be the Four ships of the Kongo class. But if that's the case I don't agree at all.

The Dukes only made 100.000T and I'd mention the revenges over them, but those were 5 and weighted almost 150.000T. The Kongos as built were exactly 110.000T combined, after their refits they made some 129.000T. Apparently they match the figures given by Krakatoa.

Hello everyone!

Come on people, that's not really a hard question, is it? What on earth could possibly be disastrous about the Iron Dukes or the Kongos??

The dreadnought in question is... well... NOT a dreadnought, with a mixed caliber armament and 1890s vintage center pivot turrets! And the real disastrous thing about it: They ordered six of them as late as 1906, blocking all yards capable of building dreadnoughts in the whole country for four years.

Enough hints? ;)

Greetings
GD

Hum...Well maybe considering Iron Duke fully loaded it almost weight about 30.000 tons, but I also think Krakatoa is talking about the Kongos class, but there are another ships in the same era like the Colorado that almost have the same tonnage or maybe a another older US class.
