You can see the same kind of thing with the various Panamax battleships the US navy came up with, it's hard to believe that only 20 years separates the Tillman Battleships from the 1930s design.

As to the Boston, I'd agree that she looks German, and I have to agree with the wish that someone had gone ahead with them after WWI, maybe they would have had better luck than the Aquitania.
