Hi Hood,

The CVA-01 looks lovely but the inboard prop shafts seem to make it to the rudder and then disappear ... is this is the fix that you made and somehow the refresh isn't working or something else?

I echo your sentiments, the CVA-01 was a good looking ship. The way the catwalks were flush with the hull sides it looks like the designers tried hard to streamline this design. To me it conjures up the same kind of mental images as other technical projects in Britain underway at this time like the Post Office tower and Concorde. Flowery words perhaps for a warship but I think the character is there in this design.

Drawing Note:
There is only a basic outline of the island so I've based the detailing off the final design. I've not drawn the flight deck as the details there are quite speculative and the general layout is the same as the final design.
Things of note are; two weapon lifts on the Alaskan Highway, the other two were mounted in the port side of the island facing inboard; Ikara launcher, Type 965 and under the forward randome is a radar labelled as 'Surveillance Radar'. Generally this design lacks the finesse of the final design but shows the linage nicely.
The air group is a mixture of aircraft as were likely to be developed in 1963; P.1154RN fighters, P.39 AEW, Chinook ASW and the others are the familiar Buccaneer and Wessex.

Regarding the previous design; I wonder why the RN still persisted with the centerline elevators, when deck edge was the way forward. Even the Invincibles eschewed DEEs.

Fear of sea damage combined with structural concerns, one would figure.

Both designs reflect the times they were in and the Golden Age with Concorde and the other streamlined designs. Even the TVG started its design process in the 60's. Europe was showing what it could do.
