Very fine work of a very odd (and unsuccessful) submarine. I seem to remember reading somewhere that eventually Swordfish was used in a surface only role.
Yes, later in the War, Swordfish was refit as destroyer.
HMS Swordfish was too slow to be a destroyer, having a surface speed of only 18 kts (being designed for 22 kts, to work with the fleet). When surfacing she was unstable, and so in 1917, was converted into a patrol boat, specifically for anti-submarine work. In 1922 was sold for scrapping. The S1 as HMS Swordfish was known, during her time as patrol craft, joined the 1
stDestroyer squadron, and that may explain why she was termed a destroyer.
