In this thread I'm going to explore various What-If's. Most will be related to the RDN, but there's probably going to other stuff as well.
This is not a coherent AU. Most of my ideas are mutually exclusive. Mostly it'll be what if they got this instead of that.

Frigate Project 1957

What if this ship had entered service before the Hans Hedtoft sank in 1959 and the RDN completely revised their Arctic operations?
One of the things they learned was that helicopters were an absolute must, and since the US weren't interested in paying for OPVs, we would probably have to convert these ships.

This is my proposal for a helo conversion.
The stern 4.5" gun and the Squid has gone in favour of a full hangar and a fairly large helo pad.
In order to have some ASW capability, I've added a Hedgehog in front of the bridge. The space immediately beneath it has been converted to a magazine.
It's still rather crude, so I'll work some more on it.
Oh and the Sonars will also go on the original once I get around to it.

Would a Squid fit instead of the Hedgehog in your helicopter refit?

No. Maybe a Limbo on each side deck just forward of the Hangar. Fitting a magazine is going to be tricky though.

Edit: Tried that, it won't work. Was the Squid vertical when it fired, or was is angled outwards?
Or does anyone know if the Shark rounds ever went anywhere?

Shark rounds were not even fired on trials AFIK. The Squid was fired when all barrels in a vertical position, angled at 45 degrees, the distance determined by the amount of gases vented into the tube behind the projectile. The barrels were lowered to the side for reloading

Right. You can't fit Limbo onto that hull (with a hangar), but you might manage Squid if you move the hangar forward to create more space on the stern. But that apart a nice subject for development :)

Yeah, I realised that. I think I'll go for two Squids on the sidedeck. I'll have to sacrifice a Bofors though.

After that, I'll look into fitting a SeaCat on it.

Another attempt at the helo conversion. One of the bofors have gone in favour of two Squids. I think there's enough room there. Anyway, the black squares next to it is for ready ammunition, the magazine is up front, under the hedgehog I've forgotten to remove.

As build or after the mid-life update?
I could see this one with 'poons, Seasparrow and two double 21" TTs

I haven't seen Squid before in the position you've placed it. My concern would be that it requires loading facilities (and rails) and enough space to tilt; and unless the section of superstructure behind it is very narrow (which you are not indicating), it just won't do. Also, why retain Hedgehog with Squid?
