As the title indicates, it was designed in 1957. It was designed to replace the WWII vintage Flowers and Hunt IIs that the RDN used to patrol Greenland.
However, when Hans Hedgaard sank in 1959, it was realized that the Navy needed a unit far more capable SAR unit, so four units of the Ice-hardened, Helicopter capable Hvidbjørnen class was build instead.
Its combat roles were taken over by the two units of the Peder Skram Class.
All in all not a bad switch, though they would have been pretty.

I still need to add passive stabilizers and sonars. Has anyone drawn the Type 170 and the Type 174? From what I can see in the archive all the units that carried it are without underwater hull. Most of them are still by unknown.

Reminds me a lot of contemporary RN frigates. Nice ship!

Indeed, one gets the idea that there were quite a bit of knowledge sharing taking place between Denmark and the UK.
The resemblance with the Type 41 is very obvious, despite the Danish lines.
Armament wise it's somewhat more capable (4 single Bofors L70 and a forest of both Radar and optical directors against one STAAG), but how it would stand up electronics wise I can't say.
Anyway, it's two meters shorter and have a slightly smaller crew (197 against 205)
This combined with the heavier gun armament suggests a higher degree of automation or at the very least a higher degree of confidence in the Diesel propulsion, since engineering is the only place you can cut.

Btw, does anyone know how the Type 174 and Type 170 sonars look?
I know the Leander class had a Type 170, but I don't know which one it is.
As far as I've been able to find out, all the ships that carried the 174 that have been drawn are hull-up only and ancient, and I haven't been able to find any pictures of them.

The Sonars? Could be. As I said, I haven't seen any pictures of them.
I'm hoping one aur the RN buffs can confirm it.

Novice is your man for that.Would the under water portion of the hull be the same on types 41+61 ? as these 2 could do with up dating

I don't think so. While it's true that it looks remarkably like the Type 41, that's only the case because the RDN had the same starting point as the RN, Hunt class et al, and because the ships were to perform largely the same mission.

Type 41+61 hull was a modified from Type 12 hull, in fact a shorter version.
Thiel I like that frigate project, and indeed seems to share some similarities with the RN frigates.
