I'd noticed that the existing V class were wrongly scaled, that plus the realisation that 16 horrendously expensive SSNs was just too much of an unjustifiable number. So, now. Now there are six boats.

As before the interesting points are

• Comprehensive non-acoustic sensor suite
• All-round sonar coverage
• EM and IR signature reduction and management systems
• Fly-By-Light control surfaces
• Deep-submergence rescue suits and capsule

Hi Blackbuck,

The sub looks really good. However, a question - given the difficulty the Alfas had once reactors were shut down, the entire reactor essentially freezing solid, would there be some sort of large-capacity hatch near the reactor spaces to allow removal of the frozen core in the event that it does become necessary to shut the plant down?

Regards,
Adam

I'd imagine there would indeed be the ability to remove the core in event of an emergency shut-down freezing it but that's something that has to be taken into account when using LMFRs. The main reason for going with them here is the increased power per given density and relatively small size of the plant itself.

Hi Blackbuck,

Well, the soviet union seemed to think they were worthwhile at the time, difficult to imagine how big a more normally-powered sub would be to reach that speed. I was more referring to the drawing - have I missed said big hatch or is it not there?

Cheers,
Adam

Bb; you know I'm your fan. You've exceptional talent to details and forms. So, how in hell you'll fit that amount of weaponry (50 in torpedo room???) in that? You're teasing/testing us, aren't you ? :)

Seawolf is roughly the same size but on a PWR with a comparable output if you believe the figures bounced around, so the >35kt max. would seem justifiable, maybe even slightly conservative.

As for the core removal, it is there in the reactor section but seeing as there's no top-down view there's no way to easily illustrate it.

The same way they do on the Seawolf. Automated loading rooms and magic pixie dust.

Now to finish the re-scaled submarines the SSGNs. :o
