Amazing work David (& Mike).
An ugly looking ship, but the drawing is beautiful. Well done !

“What-If” Commandant Teste escaped scuttling at Toulon and joined the Allies where she was converted into a fast transport, repair and transport aviation ship.

This "what-if" version is deeply studied.
The conversion itself is not very radical (thanks to the spacious & modular original design), which reduces the cost for the U.S Navy in 1943-1944.
At the same time, when we see that the Nazi troops during their August 1944 retreat destroyed the harbors infrastructures at Toulon & Marseille (these two ports will put a decade to repair war-damage).
This version would have been extremely very usefull for the allies & the French Navy during 1944-well into late 1950s.

In 1945 France considered the possible conversion of Commandant Teste into an escort/training carrier. Here is my depiction of how Teste might have appeared.
