Hi I have been trying to sim a S class DD (1917) with springsharp can anybody help as not sure if I can get it better ?
thanks JSB

4 - 21.0" / 533 mm, 18.00 ft / 5.49 m torpedoes - 1.173 t each, 4.690 t total
In 2 sets of deck mounted centre rotating tubes
Main DC/AS Mortars
2 - 300.00 lbs / 136.08 kg Depth Charges + 20 reloads - 2.946 t total
in Stern depth charge racks
2nd DC/AS Mortars
2 - 300.00 lbs / 136.08 kg Depth Charges + 10 reloads - 1.607 t total

Armour:
- Gun armour: Face (max) Other gunhouse (avg) Barbette/hoist (max)
Main: 0.50" / 13 mm - -

Oil fired boilers, steam turbines,
Geared drive, 2 shafts, 27,000 shp / 20,142 Kw = 30.71 kts
Range 5,500nm at 15.00 kts
Bunker at max displacement = 425 tons

Complement:
91 - 119

£0.205 million / $0.821 million

Distribution of weights at normal displacement:
Armament: 31 tons, 2.9 %
- Guns: 15 tons, 1.4 %
- Weapons: 15 tons, 1.5 %

- On freeboard deck: 20 tons

Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
182 lbs / 83 Kg = 5.7 x 4.0 " / 102 mm shells or 0.2 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.83
Metacentric height 1.8 ft / 0.6 m
Roll period: 8.3 seconds
Steadiness - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 49 %
- Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0.11
Seaboat quality (Average = 1.00): 0.97

Hull form characteristics:
Hull has rise forward of midbreak,
a normal bow and a cruiser stern
Block coefficient (normal/deep): 0.571 / 0.588
Length to Beam Ratio: 10.17 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 16.47 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 73 %
Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 50
Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): 11.00 degrees
Stern overhang: 0.00 ft / 0.00 m
Freeboard (% = length of deck as a percentage of waterline length):
Fore end, Aft end
- Forecastle: 17.00 %, 22.00 ft / 6.71 m, 18.00 ft / 5.49 m
- Forward deck: 21.00 %, 18.00 ft / 5.49 m, 17.00 ft / 5.18 m
- Aft deck: 41.00 %, 11.00 ft / 3.35 m, 10.80 ft / 3.29 m
- Quarter deck: 21.00 %, 10.80 ft / 3.29 m, 10.80 ft / 3.29 m
- Average freeboard: 13.74 ft / 4.19 m

Ship space, strength and comments:
Space - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 184.3 %
- Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 114.5 %
Waterplane Area: 5,149 Square feet or 478 Square metres
Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 51 %
Structure weight / hull surface area: 14 lbs/sq ft or 66 Kg/sq metre
Hull strength (Relative):
- Cross-sectional: 0.26
- Longitudinal: 1.49
- Overall: 0.31
Cramped machinery, storage, compartmentation space
Adequate accommodation and workspace room
Poor seaboat, wet and uncomfortable, reduced performance in heavy weather

- Hull strength ? what should it be ? 25% 50% 100% ? (for a WW1 DD)
- Speed v power doesn't match OTL by 6Kn top speed if at OTL power.
- must be other problems

A 0,51 hull strenght for a DD in spingsharp is acceptable. Don't expect to get away from the "poor seaboat" message because springsharp calculates the seakeeping at full speed, It is almost impossible to springsharp a DD without getting that message.

I know, sometimes I've got problems too despite I was unsing datas from actual ships. Basically, springsharp works well for CLs, CAs and BBs, things starts to get hard for DDs (and forget to get workable numbers if you try to replicate IJN treaty cruisers too....)

Forget IJN "Special-Type" DD's or the French Contre-Torpilleurs as well...

Weren't these coal-fired? I would cut down the range to 3,000 nm and drop speed to something like 25-26 knots, that should get the design to work. Ahistorical to be sure but at least she won't sink when she gets dropped in the water...

No the last coal fired are the Beagle class/G class in 1913.

The problem is I want to make a sim of the real S class so as to use it as a reference, then modify it post 30s LNT...........

I see... Still, dropping the speed is probably the only way to get this design to work. That or maybe change the engine date to something like 1930 to represent advanced engines. Things like that are the only way you can get the Fubuki-class DD's to work...

The problem is you're asking a Fiat Fiesta to do off-roading. SS is designed to do battleships and cruisers. Anything other than that and it starts to get really wonky. Even light-ish cruisers can cause trouble.
