And it goes on: The Pillau-class
Two light cruisers under construction at Schichau's for the Russian Navy, named Admiral Nevelskoy and Muravyev Amurskiy, were confiscated by the Germans in 1914 and commissioned in 1915 as SMS Elbing and SMS Pillau, respectively. They lacked vertical protection, but were otherwise state of the art: They were designed for 8 130/55 guns, but could easily accomodate 8 150/45s, plus four 52/55s in HA mountings and two 500mm deck torpedo tubes, and they were good for 28 knots.
SMS Pillau could be easily distinguished from her sister by having a higher bridge structure, a shorter forecastle and smaller aft superstructure, and lower funnels. She was heavily damaged at Jutland, where both belonged to Hipper's badly battered screening force.

After the repairs were complete, she had swapped her four 52/55s for two 88/45s, and her bridge was modified and enlargened. She was ceded to Italy after the war, becoming RN Bari and being sunk in 1943 by the USAAF.

SMS Elbing had a very short career; she was accidentally rammed by the dreadnought SMS Nassau during the battle of Jutland, flooding her engine room and rendering her immobile. She had to be scuttled when British cruisers arrived.
