This morning, I went to see off Gloucester as she leaves Portsmouth for the last time on her way to the scrapyards of Turkey. I thought I'd share some pictures. She was preceded on her exit by the current batch of destroyers, Daring. I've always been fond of the Type 42s although I prefer the batches I and II as I think they have more classic lines. I suppose its only the Argentinian Navy's T42s left in service.

A sad sight, but they had long and useful lives.

I'm surprised the Sea Dart launcher and some of the radar and EW antennas are still aboard (though I guess the electronic boxes have been stripped out).
Also, its nice to see what the 909 mounting looks like without the randome.

A sad sight, seeing the ship, pitted and rusted like this.
Type 909 are stripped, and only the mounting is aboard. As for other radars, I believe they are so outdated there is no sense in keeping them,and that goes for the Sea Dart launcher.

What's all the yellow paint? Is that primer?

Either that or it is a paint that they used to protect it from server rust... to some point.
