First ship out is the coast Guard ships of the Bear class:

Bear class was a slightly larger ice breaker than the previous ice breaker build for Caledonia Coast guard. With it's length of 107 meters, She gave Caledonia a real powerful ice breaker that have the ability to fulfill many task for the coast guard and the Navy. Here massive diesel electric powerplant made sure that she could handle almost anything and when thing got really hard, she could always star up here Gas turbine, and get an short burst of power for a limited period. The Gas turbine had a special set up, it had two mod function, either you could get all power in an short time period, or you could use it as an power generator. In generator mod, she could be used as an power station for disaster areas or as an power-station for arctic researcher station, that need to turn down it's powerplant for service them.

When she assist ships, she would pull that ship close to here stern, where she would get help from that ship powerplant and mass. giving here an even better ability to break trough thick ice. (*See finish ice breakers)

Bear class
Medium ice breaker
----------------------
Displacement: 7600 tons
Length: 107 meter
Beam: 21 meter
draft: 7.16 meter
powerplant: Four Rolls-Royce 4*4500hp, one burst gas turbine.
Two ABB Azipod units (2 × Standard 10000 hp. max 19000 hp at short burst)
Speed: 18,3 knots, max 19 knots
complement: 50

There was also an Navy version of the Bear class. The Navy had one of them in an better armed version. with some small changes in it's layout. They was a bigger hangar for a bigger helicopter, here aft deck was build to take containers. Here powerplant was also a bit different, instead for one boost gas turbine, she had an two gas turbine generators for propulsion. and two Diesel generators used as a powerplant. Those two gas turbine delivered 22000 hp max. for an speed that was limited to 23 knots, she managed 26 knots during trails... but she become uncontrollable at those speed.

She was described as an over the top armed vessel for an Naval ice breaker. what are she shooting after, flying bears!

I only wonder about the forward gun, it looks ancient compared to the rest of the vessel.

When Norway build there NoCGV Svalbard, they also used that "ancient" gun. I think the reason they used that old gun, is that it is good enough for the task. Just like the Barentshav class, they was designed to have modern 40 mm, but they mounted those old and very ancient 40 mm from Hauk class.

After all they only are there to help other vessel in the ice, and also help out those research. the old 56 mm would only be used for warning shoot.... Have you seen an coast guard vessel in the modern time, use it's main gun to sink another vessel.......

Remember it is not always you need a totally new gun, just because you have an new vessel. But I could say: "Then why do De Zeven Provincien class, use so ancient gun"

Pingu class

A smaller Ice breaker than Bear class, here role was mostly to fulfill task where there aren't necessary with as big ice breaker as the Bear class. The class have the same towing ability as the Bear class, where they pull the entire vessel they help trough the ice, in to there stern gap, thus they can use the combined power on the vessel they help and the Ice breakers own power to break trough the ice.

The main task for the Pingu class was to hold ice roads a long the coast line open, up in North.

Pingu class
light ice breaker
---------------
displacment: 4200 tons
length: 69 meters
beam: 16.4 meters
draft: 5,6 meters
powerplant: 3 Diesel electric engine. producing 14000 hp.
powering two azipod at 12000 hp.
speed: 17.3 knots
