Hello gents, newcomer to the forums here.

Just wanted to say I'm a big fan of both Maomatic's work on SB and "paper" ships in general; thank you for your efforts in bringing us delicious alternate-history eye candy.

I'll do my best not to die of anticipation until H40 and H41 are posted.

Hi,

well, its' been a while since I last posted in this thread... :)

Next in line is a design study made in December 1940, known as the "1940A".

Slightly biggier and heavier than its' predecessors, it would have been equipped with a mixed propulsion system of Diesel engines and steam turbines.
Unusual for a German battleship design, it would have had four shafts.

Armament would have consisted of six guns of 40,6cm or bigger calibre. The medium and light artillery would have probably remained the same as on the earlier designs.

Some basic stats according to german-navy.de:
Displacement: 65.600 tons
Length: 282,9 m
Speed: 32,2 kn

References on this design are scarce. So please note that my drawing is to be taken with the "usual grain of salt". I had to do some "guesses" here and there.
The placement of the 2cm guns is pure speculation on my part. Some parts of the superstructure may have been shaped slightly different (area of aft rangefinder).

Thanks for looking!

Just about the standard I'd expect from you, maomatic, it looks superlative!
