Well, it's with great displeasure that I inform you all of the untimely demise of Arthur. Up until the beginning of this week he had been fine, since then events took a turn for the worse, as with most guinea pigs, when they get to middle and old age due to the hard water we get they develop bladder stones which in younger pigs can be removed. After taking him to the vets earlier this week the vet confirmed our suspicions but was unaware as to the size of the stones so unable to make a prognosis. Added to this he chipped a tooth sometime in the last week that had impacted his appetite and ability to eat, we got the tooth filed and he seemed pretty reasonable but too a turn for the worse this morning. He was in a great deal of discomfort trying to go to the toilet but unable to, he was rushed to the vets again after saying goodbye to his brother where the prognosis was it was in his best interests to be given an overdose of painkillers to end his suffering.

So as of roughly 11:15 today Arthur G. Pig - The oldest and most splendid of all the guinea pigs we've ever had is no longer with us.

Hopefully his brother George doesn't comprehend his fate or where he has gone. Guinea pigs require company and should never be bought singularly so we'll have to see how things go with him.

In conclusion, I'll miss you, you and your cross-eyed lip-dangling smile - you big old lump of a boar.

R.I.P Arthur G. Pig - Wonder Boar Supreme Circa. 07/05/2010 - 23/05/2015

~Mark. :(

My condolences Mark.

It was only in February I had to have my companion cat of 15 years put to sleep.

I'm very sorry about your loss, Blackbuck. My girlfriend just had her cat of 18 years put down and it never gets easier to deal with the loss of of a loved pet. He looked like he was a charming little guy.

Thank you all for the kind words. I agree, it never gets easier especially ones that really bond with you.

He was indeed a charming little man, he used to pretend to be a tortoise by taking his igloo with him everywhere he went.

My condolences, I had similar experience with our old dog. The Labrador..

her last year she smelled like an pharmacy gone crazy, until the summer hit her. I found here on an field, shaking and everything. A couple of weeks later we had our neighbor over with his hunting gun and do what was best for here. she managed to become 13 years old. The kindest dog in the world, that will not care about anything, so long you are happy.

I did remember some beautiful artwork by Jim Warren, if he had known Arthur, he would certainly have added him in!
