I really like these ships. The RN Queen Elizabeths are my favorite
super - dreadnoughts, but this class has a wonderful look. I wish
that one or more had been modernized like the USS Pennsylvania.
Just think how twin 5inch/38's and quad 40mm's would look on
this ship.

The last two entries in this thread will depict Bretagne's and Provence's sister ship, the third in the class, Lorraine. This posting will be Lorraine as she appeared in late 1939: Note that her mid-ships 14" turret has been removed and an aircraft catapult has been installed above a hanger atop the boat deck which has been extended out to the gunwale amidships her fore and after mast platforms differ from the other two ships in her class, as well as the foremast top aerial/yard.

Our last stop will be Lorraine in 1944 after her refit. :D

Beautiful work as always...I'll be sad to see this thread end! But I'm guessing the Normandie-class will be next? ;)

Goodness what a fine drawing. When many decades ago (1973) bought Breyer at the Koch & Brentano bookstore in Chicago I thought the modernized Loraine was the coolest French battleship. That and she was named after a piece of property the French didn't own when she was designed. They never forget.

I'm working on Lorraine 1944 refit with the enhanced AA-suite she's rather impressive. ;)
