I have been re-reading this book for the 3rd or fourth time over a 40 year timespan. As I have got older I have had more sympathy with Lieutenant-Commander Hill and his circumstances. This is an excellent book on the experiences of a destroyer captain in WW2.

He starts off in command of HMS Ledbury (Hunt Class) just in time for PQ17, no sooner does he finish with that infamous convoy than he goes off to 'Pedestal' and is involved in the Ohio saga. More derring-do in command of the Grenville (U-class leader) and then Jervis (J-class leader) see him at Anzio and the Italian campaign, then off to D-Day.

I can highly recommend this book to anyone who can find a copy. Well worth a read.

Puts into perspective the work I have done on the J Class DD's from design to production.

Sounds like the Allied version of Hara Tameichi's book...interesting! Might have to check this one out.
