for details, I would use photos. But the important thing about using photo is to be careful with choosing what details you want to use, for sometimes, it can be to much. That's how I work, when I draw.

mainly I ask as the catwalks around the sides of the hangar are giving me trouble as to tell what is a walkway and what is not.

Nearly all the catwalks have railings, so they might not so hard to identify.

This pic of Ryuujou is realli amazing for detailing purposes, unfortunately it shows her after her 1934, so quite a few parts are not good for her as-built fit.

That's an enclosed lookout post or an enclosed machine gun director. Some are labeled in the PM I've sent you the other day, the ones with the smaller shield should fit almost spot-on :)
