Merchant ships saga continues
The small ms Amarna built for Moss Hutchison for their Mediterranean services, as part of their post war rebuilding program.

in 1967 Cunard had chartered the ship, but instead of going to the warm Med, she was put in service of the Great Lakes. The ship was in Cunard service for a year, and returned to her owners being renamed Amarna again.

When the Amarna returned to Moss Hutchison the ships were repainted with a white hull. This the Assiout close in the late 1960's

Looking at your merchant vessels connect me to my inner boy and my remembrance of my boyhood on several adventures in the harbour of Copenhagen ;) Excellent drawings (as always!) :D

I grew up in the Toledo, Ohio area. I had no idea any Cunard ships
served on the Great Lakes. Thanks for the profile and the info!

Time for another Cunard vessel. Launched in December 1946, the SS Asia was built by Sir James Laing & Sons, of Sunderland, England. The ship was powered by two single reduction geared turbines powering a single screw and was capable of 15.5 knots. She made her maiden voyage to Canada on April 15th 1947. During her career with Cunard she mainly sailed on on the Liverpool - Canadian services as well as the Liverpool - New York service. In May of 1963 she was sold to Taiwanese interests for which she sailed until her retirement in 1968. It arrived at the ship breakers in January of 1969. Two nearly identical sister ships Arabia and Assyria were also built.
