IMO, Policing EEZ (very low level CG/SAR stuff cheap/small local patrol boats) + one bigger ship as a token helping out NATO (So NATO comes and helps if anything big happens).

I think FACs/“Sea denial” are really only useful peer v peer or to defend yourself from a larger power and in that case you shout for NATO/EU to come help..... (in the W Med who is going to be willing to fight the EU/NATO ?)

JSB
You are right, my fault, I forgot about joining NATO… In that case, I can agree with you about doctrine and “shouting for help”... But for me one of the pillars of achieve independence is to obtain sovereignty… and because history tells me than treaties can turn worthless, I´m not sure to rely on NATO… But this is only my opinion… On the other hand, maybe joining them turns out a practical way to cool down Spain-Catalunya frictions… God only knows…

I Consider three escenarios. CAT-SPA in NATO and good relations for 2022-2028 catalan armed force circa 0.2% pop + reserves 0,45% pop 1,6% GDP. Not NATO one of both. Good relations CAT With FRA and SP 0.25% pop in uniform + 0.55% + reserves 1.9% GDP in defense. Not in NATO at least one and Bad relations with at least one neighbour 2022-2028 0.30% pop in uniform + 0.65 with reserves and gdp in defence circa 2.2% GDP.

As I used as idea in contrast to ANC document that there was an agreement on partition. Because it is the option that is less bad for both sides.

Also there are the 2 SESAMAR oceanics tugs moored at Tarragona.
I also think of BAM of a sort "White elephant" or as future conversion to corvette. I think that first period problem will, also I thought on Serviola's, but I didn't find a suitable blueprint kind drawing to work with.

I have worked a River class patrol boat.
About the minesweepers they wood of fiberglass hulls the easy part to build. although I thought in tripartite ot Hunt class.
About the NH90 I decided to keep it although I also thought in lighter helicopters because I though in use that helicopter for my future Frigates.
Do you know which class of SASEMAR ships are based on Tarragona? I can´t find them...

There is a "shipbucketed" Serviola here: http://www.shipbucket.com/forums/viewto ... 868#p81839

The problem with the BAMs is that I don´t know if they are “fitted for but not with” sensors and weapons. If they are, you can modify it as a corvette... but if they were designed as pure OPV, with no advanced sensors or weapons in mind, conversion seems to me a big and costly issue, and in that case, maybe I would prefer to buy a second hand combat capable vessel instead...

I like your River OPV, but the bow appears a little purple to me, I don´t know if it’s my problem or someone else also see it like that...

About the NH90, I would keep them also, but just as land based ASW helicopter. For me their running cost to operate doesn’t justify to embark them in a simple patrol ship that can´t take fully benefit of them and vice versa... I would only deploy them sporadically just to keep the qualifications of the pilots, but not as his standard on-board type…
I like the Tripartite the most, and also the Hunt class seems right to me (how about the Sandown??? :?: ). The idea of a modified patrol boat was to keep commonality with other ships, but if they sell them at good price, i´ll take any of them…

MCM hibrid based on Hunt Class Design.

I decided to have a force of circa 30000 active and Reserve 1 and 1,6 GDP in defense which is over 3,200 millions of €uros.

If Spain delivers Segura class MH. I worked a Real design database RN Sandown to make a Segura.

Not sure if a new build hunt based class MCM has any place in a navy with protector USVs ? (would drones not take over and they could work from any ship ?)

Looking at your list makes me think you have a lot of different types of ship to look after can you cut it down ?

IMO I would maybe go with,

2 x Ex spanish 133tm Toralla Class. Renamed Cape class.
4 x Descubierta-class corvettes
+ Speed harbour/police/lifeboat boats etc.
5 x Aérospatiale SA330 Puma
(I'm assuming they are basically given free without you having mush choice in what you picked ? they are old but usable till we can replace them. I don't really know much about them but would prefer full classes so as not to split support costs)

Then you could go and buy 3 Rivers (Tyne subgroup) from RN (I'm sure you would get a nice price if you agreed to buy a few (3?) new builds at the same time. This would then replace most of you ships with a fleet of 6 Rivers that could patrol effectively and would be cheap to run (and not to old 3x 2003 and 3 x 2018 set up in a nice pattern for replacement). If you want you can add more weapons than the RN does such as the Omni Khareef class and you can probably fit them with the MCM drones you will be using in that role.
Other classes are probably available from French etc look around and you might get a good deal unless you have to support your own shipyard but any supplier will probably be happy to licence to you.

I'm currenty working in an navy expansion program and a more conventional fleet consisting of corvettes and Frigates.

I also added swedish CB90 for the marines as fast landing craft and RHIB as trainning of the 1a Companyia de Infanteria de Marina and Special Forces. When I could have more experienced crews and troops the Company will be expanded to Battalion size and be more conventionally, from a the role of swedish coastal troops and finnish ones to a one like dutch marines.

I desestimated descubiertas: for weight, size and required crew. Also Descubiertas had been derated to patrol boats, and modified, I know that currently have an helipad no ASW mortar. Maybe instead of the Hunt modification I could had obtained 2 exspanish, Segura class, minehunters which are similar to Sandowns. So Catalan navy can Keep a "British look".

I considered that in 2016-2018 Catalan navy gets what's avaiable and from 2018 starts to purchase it's own assets.

I considered Type 26 frigates or FREMMs for my navy.

My idea for 2023-2028 Period is basically expanding Catalan defense forces and doubling manpower from 9000 + 6000 reserves to 18000 + 15000 reserves. This means for navy increasing blue waters capacity, for airforce getting an long range lift capacity and a second fighter Squadron. I'll post during weekend.

My only question would be why ? (ie why do you/catalan taxpayers want a blew water navy ? I could see a large number of OPVs to manage the Med but what else will you need ?)
