Ah... great to see all these parts! :)

And if anyone was interested, here's my version of KT-97 launchers (and not only).
(I have a feeling that they represent them slightly better ;) )

Yes...and since they are featured in the small crafts you drew mostly I recon, so yes, they definetly deserve a seat in the sheets by that merit.

To open this challenge, I discovered some ships which were created via a series of pm with another member for an AU Cuba, but the project died before came out. Reasons was that the AU went too far, but I have several good what if "proposals" of WW2 US ships with Soviet weapons.

What if USA had given Cuba some Fletcher DD in 1950's during Batista dictatorship? They indeed give however 2-3 Tacoma Class frigates and when this ship drawned, an "AU Soviet upgrade in Cuba" could be created.

So, this is the first project of Purple Challenge, a Fletcher upgrated with Soviet systems (created about one year before-I visited again the museum Fletcher Velos D-16 we have in Hellas to see outside space). I do not know if is correct, because my knowlegde about how Soviet systems are intergrated is limited.

The history behind the Cuban Fletcher is obvious: the two ships were modified with Soviet systems in mid to late 1960's under the rearmament programm of Fidel Castro goverment. Cubans reverse engineered the ammunitions for the 5"/38 guns and managed to maintain the Mk.37 director by Soviet assistance somehow.

After a second look, I think I could move all the Styx in center and install one more AK-257 in "B" position. Radars need also better positioning.

P.S Ruzzelsuallo is dissappeared, I searched in members list and this name is exinct. However, I think that he will like that the Cuba AU came to light.

I'm not sure for some of it, but some things raise my doubts.
First - I guess that experts on US Navy can correct me - but by the shape of bridge I suppose it's FRAM-modernized ship, which is relatively unlikely to be transferred before 1959 revolution (actually it's more likely that only destroyer escorts would be transferred at all, but let's leave it).
Secondly, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't remember ever seeing P-15-family launchers firing to the side, only forward or aft.
Thirdly, I'm not convinced about that mix of AK-257 and AK-230's (and completely unconvinced about that MR-104 between funnels). I think that most ships ex-US ships that ended up in hands of Soviet-bloc countries ended up rather with simple 37mm AAA's btw.

The bridge is just the usual later-type "square bridge" with a canopy and wind shield added. Not all the FRAM ships were given new bridge arrangements as far as I can tell, but I am no expert on the post-war USN.

Anyway, it's highly probable that Cuba could easily make this modification to a ship they were given. I agree that DEs and Tacoma class frigates would be more likely, though.

This is also the older, out of scale version of the Fletcher that I originally drew back in 2007. You should work from one of the newer ones I drew this past summer: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/161 ... 201945.png

I needed a correct Fletcher anyway, so this will be modified for here and RHN AU. Reall Helllas received them from 1954-1962 gradually and none was FRAM (only 3 Fletchers received FRAM).

OK have not finished my main entry but here is a small export FAC inspired by eswube's latest work.

A post cold war export orientated FAC using a Ukrainian hull and Italian systems.

Since you guys start posting ships in this thread, I'll remove it to the personal designs

The challenges of the past have been, IMO, a great success. However, we have now been some time without one active

The earlier challenges have seen some very interesting designs, but they were quite specific oriented on the NATO knowhow.

Because that was some bit of a complaint in the past, I have decided to start up a new challenge oriented on both sides of the iron curtain, but still 'strange' enough to all to be a challenge.

The goal of this challenge is to lay a bridge from red to blue and vice versa. There are nations, like for example India and Indonesia, which use Russian and western equipment next to each other. The goal is ships which have traits from both western and eastern influence on the design and systems. The rules are simple:
- At least 2 parts of the 'other side' as the base design
- The nation that commissions the ship may not be a nation that designs and builds the majority of their ships themselves. India or Venezuela are thus allowed, but the Netherlands or Canada not.
- Commissioned 1975-2005
- No kitbashes! Working from a base ship is good, great even, but if you slam a Kusnetsov superstructure on a Spruance hull you are not doing anything in the challenge. If you put the Kusnetsov radars and weapons on a Spruance hull, go ahead! :P
- keep it real. Something like India sailing Kirov’s with American radars is unlikely, so not much point in drawing that out.

I'd like to have a public choice and a team of 'professional' judges for this challenge. That means that in the end, all drawing will be put in a poll. In addition to that I would like to see at least 2 judges, one of them working in the blue influence and one in the red. That way these ships can be judged honestly. If anybody wants to do so, or if people want somebody to do this, just reply below ;) The winner will be the one to decide the rules of the next sb challenge (that is all the reward I can offer).

I hope I have hereby interested many people in the new challenge, so we can all learn about the systems and designs we often do know little about. Please help each other and I hope to find some interesting new designs!
Very interresting challenge.
I don't know how i've missed it.
The base ship should come from one of the sides (USA, GB, France, italy, Spain, Germany, Japan, Netherland........or Soviet union) but can it be built at anytime before "alteration"?
