The aircraft carrier BRP Luzon is the flagship of the Philippine Navy and is the largest and most advanced warship operated by a Southeast Asian country. BRP Luzon uses a STOBAR design where Sea Gripens are launched by means of a ski-jump and are recovered with arresting gear. In addition to the Sea Gripens BRP Luzon also carries AgustaWestland AW101 helicopters, primarily in an ASW configuration although AEW versions are also embarked. Other helicopters of the Philippine Navy such as the AgustaWestland SuperLynx 300 and NHIndustries NH90TTH could be embarked as well. BRP Luzon operates in a battle group composed of, aside from the carrier, 1-2x Jose Rizal Class DDG's, 2-3x Emilio Jacinto Class FFG's, 1x Bangus Class SSK and 1x Manobo Class AOR. The BRP Luzon and her CVBG are regular participants in RIMPAC and some other exercises since her commissioning in 2011.
