Could you design a Tempest with the probe open, please?

Thanks guys!

The final variant of the Tempest, the HAe Advanced Tempest (Tempest Mk5 and Mk6 in Recherche service):

(Seen here in their demo paint schemes)
This variant bridged the gap between the older Tempest models and the HAe Firebolt. Primarily a sensor and avionics upgrade with an AESA radar, IRST, improved ECM suite and all that other fancy stuff, it also featured the higher power R636 engines with 2D thrust vectoring nozzles developed for the Firebolt and some signature reduction measures including a new air intake design, cleaner tails and up to three optional weapons pods.

And some stats for the Tempest variants:
General Characteristics
Crew: 1 or 2
Length: 17.0m
Wingspan: 11.4m
Height: 4.75m
Wing Area: 41.1m2 (450ft2)

Hi Rowdy,

Those look very nice - but wouldn't your max speed (unless that's limited by temperature concerns on the airframe itself), combat radius (not necessarily decrease, but "change") and rate of climb change with the new engines, too?

Regards,
Adam

Thanks for the reply Adam, I'll try and address your (very good) points.

I figured the top speed as being airframe limited rather than engine power limited so I left it the same (acceleration would improve significantly though I'd imagine). Combat radius would probably change... not sure how though - more powerful engines would presumably use more fuel but being newer they might be more economical for the power provided. Rate of climb I thought about changing but although engine power improves the wing loading increases as well - not being particularly physics savvy I don't really know what the change would be plus a 50,000ft/min climb rate seems to be the average for 4th gen fighters anyway.

If anyone has any more information I'd be glad to hear it :)
