This thread was originally intended for all merchant ships. In a separate thread I've put all US flagged merchant ships, found here, and there was a thread for the WW2 MARAD program ships, which is now joined with the US merchant ships thread. All other merchant ships I did are here.
There is no obligation to put merchant ships here. The Cal-Mac thread is excellent as was the Portsmouth ferries thread.

The Swedish motor ship Suecia of 1912 was a sister ship of the Dutch Kedoe, both were built By Burmeister & Wain and was the company's first motor ship.
The ship was leased to Great Britain in 1940and was sunk in 1942

I realise that the MS Suecia was a diesel powered ship, but that
(exhaust) stack is tiny! Most diesel ships had a traditional sized stack.
Do you know why this one is so small?

Because it's an early diesel ship. Diesel propulsion was fairly new and the designers wanted to show it to the world. That's why the M/S Selandia used the mizzen mast for its exhaust. Later the big funnel made a comeback because it turned out it's a really handy place to fit all kinds of auxiliary equipment.

Novice, your M/S Suecia is really doing justice to the original, f which I've seen many photos in my youth, except that it was not a naval vessel! You (hopefully inadvertently) are showing her flying the triple-tounged (tasseled) flag of the Royal Swedish Navy (Kustflottan)! A square shroud is what you need.

Thank you Ari for the update. I'll update the drawing soon. The flag was picked from a drawing of a Svea ferry, so I was under the impression it was correct.
The small funnel was a recognizing feature of early Diesel ships, as Thiel so rightly stated ( he is an engineer after all and so he should know)
In fact some of the early motorships were refitted with a full size funnel post war, like the Balboa from the same company which after WW2 was sold to Hugo Stinnes and renamed Wolfsburg. The Balboa is on the slipway.
