I love the detail on the directors!!!
Just a question why did they fit a steath gun when the ship isn't steathy (just a general questio)
I'm guessing they used what they had available.

Actually, when commissioned, the Cumberland was equipped with the Mk8 housing. I've not found any substantial answer why just the Cumberland and not her three sisters has been so retrofitted. If anyone with such info can lend it, it'd be most appreciated. However that it'd be 'having available' is not the answer.

...a posting error

but, I don't really have much to say about these ships. But really, that's a good thing. The only thing that sticks in my mind is why the ship's name is in a larger font than the class name, but that's a very minor nitpick.

Though I've kinda wondered about the sextuple Sea Wolf launchers with no reloads. I understand these are just frigates but I've always felt they were held back by that, especially in comparison to the VLS, boosted Sea Wolf-equipped Type 23 (though yeah, I also understand those were a later class and effectively meant as Type 22 replacements :p )

The font is just my typo thing, and I didn't bother to change it. I have to do this manually since I'm stuck with a rather crappy basic paint. As far as the reload thing, I believe they had (have) The official certification of the ships state that they carried up to 72 Sea Wolfs, which is substantially more than the Sea Sparrow system at the time allowed. Maybe an armament expert can shed more light on this. Thank you, though for your (I think!) compliment! ;)

Great work bezobrazov. Truely a great selection of ships and some great artistry. These all get a well deserved thumbs up!

Thanks Hood, and also thanks for your pointing out some essential issues which I've tried to fix. Your support has been greatly appreciated.

O for the want of a few ££££.In an era when RN ships wre criticised for spartan weaponry fits the batch 3 certainly packs a punch.A 4.5" gun, 2 Seawolfs,8 Harpoons,6 TT,a Goalkeeper and 2 Lynx. With the added bonus of being the best looking frigate of the late cold war era.

Quite a fantastic model. I'm more than a little jealous.

I give you now the second ship of the Batch 1: HMS Battleaxe as of 1980. The differences between her and Brilliant are quite evident. The two first ships (Broadsword and Battleaxe) were commissioned without the triple TTs and a rather unreliable 40 mm/60 mounting on each bridge wings. Also they had the rather obsolescent Corvus chaff/flare system. They also were unique in being the only ships with markedly tall funnels with distinctive flutes or ears on either side. Around 1985 those were gone and a broader, lower funnel casing was fitted instead. Battleaxe was too late to participate in the Falklands Conflict, but sailed afterwards to the South Atlantic as part of a relief force for the British Task Force which had taken back the islands from the Argentinians. In 1997 she was sold to Brazil and commissioned as the CT Rademaker (F-49), and she's still in service.

Now updated with the right open-mounted 40mm gun!
