Ok.. so, this is the submarine of Italian Federation Navy.

It' a larger version of U212 standard.
The endurance is 1,4 (circa) of U212, have 8 torpedo tubes and 12 weapons in storage (Black Shark torpedo and Scalp Naval cruise missile, and Manta [ratio 1:2] mine and "maiale" [SOF vehicle]).

There is a multi purpose locks (2 m of diameter) for SOF insertion and mini SOF vehicle (up two, like STIDD DPS), a Triple M mast with 3 UAV Aladin, and comm mast with communication integration system with communication buoy for under water communication.

The submarine can mount a seal delivery vehicle (2 crew, 6 SOF operato plus equipment) on the deck, for clandestine infiltration.

There aere eight units planned in the years 2004 - 2014.

The submarine base is Taranto, with forward naval support station in La Maddalena/Sicily, and Roda and Assab (two italian overseas territory), capable of recharge the hydrogen and oxygen for AIP propulsion system.

Is that some kind of drone launcher aft of the comm buoy?

These aere the vessel for support the Diver Operation Gourp, the diver unit of Italian Navy.
There are two vessels of MAS class, anche 18 RHIB of BAS class.

The MAS vessel have a hyperbaric chamber and small support rib, for support the diver operation up to 80 meter deep, the two vessel are based on Varignano, the home of diver of IN.
While the BAS can support the operation in seafloor shallow, river, and lake, and can be easily airborne, they are based on Varignano, and naval base and navale support station around italian territory.
