I'm not sure the RN was that shock hardened pre war (think Ark royal, they just had by 45 learnt the lessons well, the hard way !).

With Pom poms (2 quads) and enclosed 5/38 mounts (6 x 1, not sure if its actually very good compared to as 12 x 4inch)

still, even prewar, IIRC, RN mountings were 10-20% heavier then that of bofors.

Looks good. I'm no USN expert and I'm not sure if the belowdecks parts exist for the US 6in, but I wonder if without the fixed barbette length, whether the X and Y turrets could be mounted a deck lower. That might by enough reserve in topweight to mount four twin 5in DP. I say might...

Having had a look at the LNT (1930) I think I have to make use of article 8c 8-) .

The British empire really needs colonial transports/training vessels/survey gunboats etc.......

Since we are building leanders class CLs at the time why not save money and reuse the same hull ?

1/2 the power (ie one of the 2 units) will give 25 ish Kn (to fast for 8c, but we can always reduce the steam pressure/fit restrictors to reduce that to 19.9Kn and its much cheaper than designing a new types of machinery).

WIP, I have 2 options cant decide what arrangement to use thinking B atm.

IMO a 25Kn CL with good scouting is useful,
- escort the slow BBs and scout for them.
- hunting AMC.

any comments welcome, (apart from that my pic above is rather big, sorry)

Well hopefully Majhost starts working again :(.

What do you think A or B,

Do you think I would need to use a wider hull to pass it off as a not warship ?

Thanks JSB

Personally, B-39 would be superior as it has forward and rear 6" cover.

Hi JSB,

Not meaning to pick nits, but the B31 version you've got ... does that not fall foul of 8c3 - Are designed or fitted to launch torpedoes?

Also, 25 knot? From the text posted this would be 20 knot maximum - still useful for escorting BBs transferring between station or something like that but possibly not for scouting - unless we're willing to "not notice" the extra speed?

What do you mean,

B31 isn't designed for torpedoes  , that's just a balcony under the hangar ;) (maybe we should fit a sailing boat what do you think sport is always good for the ratings :P ). Ok maybe I should plate it in ? and remove some of the light AA guns any idea how to make it less warlike ?

From playing with spring sharp 1/2 power (ie 1 unit) on a Leander hull gets you about 25Kn, so to save money developing a new setup you could just fit steam flow restrictors and turn down the pressure and temp to reduce the designed power down to make 20Kn.

Hi JSB,

Fair enough, it's your AU, after all ;) - I only asked because my understanding is that the RN were quite serious about following the terms of the treaty, even though this lead to inferior ships (overall - I don't doubt that even with the tonnage and armament restrictions RN ended up doing some things better than KM/IJN) compared to their adversaries.

That's the problem you think of all the ways round the WNT/LNT and there are lots ! (and no enforcement of tonnage ether)
but then when you think about the RN the political masters would never have allowed them to do it.

hum well I like B better so may improve it a bit (even if I cant think of a back story that would get it built).
