Would someone be so kind as to explain to be why the different FD guys are colored differently?

well with the little brain power I have, it is obvious that we are showing the keeper and the football player. Everybody know a keeper have a bit different uniform than a player!

first row: goalkeeper and the other ten players (main team).
second row: reserve players (two goalkeeper and 10 other players).
third and forth row: coach, trainers, random staff, etc etc...

That's not football, that's handegg. ;)
Though Heu might not be too polite about it, he's entirely correct. Most of the world knows the sport soccer by the name of "football" in english.

Sadly in the Commonwealth of Australia, thanks to the popularity of a local version of Gaelic Football, called Australian Rules, or more colloquially as Footy/Football/Aussie Rules, English Football is mostly known as Soccer as well
