Carpenteria Air and Missile Defence (AMD) System
The Carpenteria Air and Missile Defence (AMD) System is manufactured by CEA Industries and is the IFAA's primary high to medium air defence system. In addition to this primary role, Carpenteria also provides anti-ballistic missile support. The CEA-PATIR is the heart of the system. Carpenteria uses an advanced aerial interceptor missile and high-performance radar systems.
Carpenteria has four major operational functions: communications, command and control, radar surveillance, and missile guidance. The four functions combine to provide a coordinated, secure, integrated, mobile air defence system.
Carpenteria is modular and highly mobile. A battery-sized element can be emplaced in less than 1 hour. All components, consisting of the fire control section (radar set, engagement control station, antenna mast group, electric power plant) and launchers, are truck mounted. The launchers (with missiles) are mounted on Leader Constructor 6270 trucks and the radar/control units is mounted on Leader Chieftain 5000TT trucks. Missile reload is accomplished using a Leader Constructor 6270 truck with a rear mounted Hiab crane.
The heart of the Carpenteria battery is the fire control section, consisting of the phased array radar set, an engagement control station , an antenna mast group and generator set. The system's missiles are transported on and launched from the launching station, which can carry up to four Carpenteria-2 missiles.
