Hi folks ! After a day of thinking at this question, I had decided to share you this question: Does Shipbucket need a template for the gun barrels ? Here is my sheet with examples I had find around the forum:

Thanks for comments. ;)

That's interesting initiative, and something IMHO worth to be included into revised rules, but maybe it would be more clear if - at least for the smaller calibres - instead of saying 1", 2" etc. would say: "up to XXmm - 1 pixel", "from XXmm to XXmm - 2 pixels" etc. As right now it is still unclear about calibres inbetween.

I Knew that everything below 2.9 inches = 1 pixel (unless water-cooled)
from 3 to 4.7 inches = 2 pixels
5/6 inches = 3 pixels
8 inches = 4 pixels
above that there is no exact rule, yet I've noticed that usually 12 inch-guns are drawn 5 pixels thick and 16 inch-ones as 6 pixels.

Just a nitpick. the smaller turret you listed as 356mm it's instead a 305mm one

What I've always not understood are why are 40mm guns 2 pixels thick, but 57mm ones 1 pixel?

1 barrel: 1 px thick.
2 barrel or more: 2 px thick.

57 mm:

1 barrel: 1px thick
2 barrel or more: 2px thick

since when? I have never heard, seen or used that rule.
IIRC, 40m and 57 mm both should be one pixel, although there might be some mixing in with the 'water cooled' rules which dictate thicker barrels. 76mm would be the 2 pixel gun.
which 40mm guns have 2 pixel thick barrels?

Never heard of the multiple barrel rule.

The USN 40mm Bofors have two-pixel thick barrels, but they are water-cooled, so they abide to the thickness rule.

I assumed that, since I have seen 40 mm with one barrel (1 px), and 40 mm with multiple barrel (2 px). but also at one point was told to use two pixel when twin, and single px when single barrel. that's way!

40mm = internal barrel diameter depends what the barrel in made from whether its a single tube, multiple tubes or wire wound will effect the external diameter of a gun.
