Hi eswube,

I figured you'd have some sort of composite (rather than an alloy) construction to give you an Al core for strength / weight with the fire-resistant bits on the outside. The concern, of course, is "does that end up heavier than just using steel?"

Actually something like this was done, a fire resistant coating. The final construction is still lighter than steel by about 15%. Trials showed that fire was slowed down enough for extinguished in sea. The lighter construction was critical for packing Mk13 and and Adis I to a hull roughly the size of a Garcia/Brooke. And concerning the mythical "fire-resistant aluminum alloy", this was for internal consumption.

These small directors are for Dardo CIWS (one each side). But the director on bridge will be moved behind rear mast-Fixed. The second channel for Sea Sparrow is of course the WM-25.

For export variants now, Argentinian ships had four MM-38 missiles or Adis IIA ( both with fixed wings) mainly due to political reasons- goverment thought that if sell Adis I missiles to Argentina could affect relationship with Britain. Pakistani variant had Harpoon, since this was their choice.

Argentinian Konon Mk3 (Moreno Class)

Four units were ordered in 1976, of which two built in Hellenic Kingdom and two in Argentina. Latter were just in time in service for Falklands war. These were the first with the large hangar, since Argentinians want to use Sea King helicopter on them. There was an option for two more ships to built in Argentina, which was done in 1984-1986. These had Adis IIB missiles and in theory SUR-18 (however it is unclear if this weapon sold to Argentina), but Heroina sub-class does have twelve tubes like Crete Class of RHN. Another significant change is that these had the same hangar with the Messimvria Class, ready for receive Mk13 GMLS. This was done finally in 1994-1995 and Argentina entered the Area Defence club. But with basic equipment (SPG-51C, CDS Osiris Mk3, no 3D radar) they are more close to L-Class before their modernization . Besides, USN supplied old reconditioned SM-1 with 46km range like Philippine received some years before.

I wonder if a Mk48 mod2 could fit between Oto Melara 127mm and superstructure (for retaining Sea Sparrow capability)

keep track on the service years of your radars. the DA-08 aft was first fitted on the dutch heemskerck class. the LW-03 was first fitted on the van speijks.
the WM and the DA are targeting systems, so I think you require only one of them. it might not be wrong in all, but just check it ;)

If the LW-03/08 hybrid could stand in 1978, could I use one more Selenia director for gun instead of the WM? (the large one upper rear). If no, what are my options? Create something like Lupo Class?

The DA-08 could perhaps fitted later.

well, the DA-08 became available in 1986, so you could maybe fit an DA-05 there instead? the S frigate with LW-08 and WM egg was operational in 1980, so that might be an option too.

Salamis Class again, with MEKO-HN radars and directors. Dardo CIWS has its own guidance, integrated into the CDS. This is the modernized Salamis, in mid to late 1990's.

An old design I had sitting in my "shipyard" for a long time (about 2 years).

Although original Kimon Class DDG's were still in good condition, after the decommissioning of Italian Audace Class in late 2006, Kimon's became the last steam powered warships in Europe. It was obvious that a new AAW Destroyer was needed. After evaluation of many designs (mainly with APAR radar) the South Korean KDX-II was chosen and equipped with APAR and ISI Osiris IV Combat Management System, SSM Adis II and Exocet MM40 Block III (Adis III). However, the long awaited cold launch Vertical Launch GMLS was not ready and ships use the US Mk41 VLS. First unit commissioned in June 2011, follow by the second in 2012. Third ship will enter sevice in September and fourth in 2015. Note that none ship built in Korea.

Specifications

Builders: Hyundai Heavy Industries/ Eleusis Shipyard
Dimensions : 150m X 17.4m X (9.5m?)
Displacement : 5,520tn
Complement : 300
Propulsion : CODOG (GENME 16V-GN650, each 4.9MW (6570hp) + 2 Aerodyne MT16-AD-330 gas turbines, each 25MW (33,500hp)
Speed : >30kn
Range : 5000nm/16kn

Armament

1 X OTO Melara 127/64 LW
ARIS VI CIWS
64-chell Mk41 VLS with:
16 ESSM, 8 SUR-30VL, SAM-75A/SSM-75A Adis VI (32-34/4-6), Chimera II cruise missiles (from 2016)

8 SSM-50D or SSM-100A (latter is RHN designation for Exocet MM40 Block III)
2 triple Mk32 torpedo tubes with Mk46 or TP-61 torpedoes

Helicopters: 2 X AB-212A2 or 1 AS332F helicopters

-Last DDG Kimon I decommissioned in March 2014.
-Note that HLK participated in the Aster program but withdrawn due to rising cost in 2003 and develop its own SAM system based on SM-2 frame. The resulting SAM-75A Adis VI guided from the APAR like SM-2 Block IIA.
