Anyone has an idea why the Royal Navy designed this class without any hangar facilities?

Well, they were replacements for the Fearless class, which also hadn't hangar facilities; so probably not within the design requirement.

still makes me wonder.... the albion, the bay.... all have no hangar. you would think an amphibian strike force would need them.....

I'll think it's naval tactics reason. The flight deck on the vessel is bigger when it haven't a hangar. In an amphibious maneuver there will be supported by heavy battle ships (destroyers and fregates) where it gets heli-support from. Then it is possible to use the hole flight deck to store vehicles

^ the trouble is that most other nation's LPDs have spacious hangars, including the Rotterdams which are based on the same design as the Bays.

I think in the case of the Bays, it's a cost-cutting measure.

I've drawn a Royal Navy EH-101 Merlin (it's shown in parts sheets discussion) and I know it isn't aproved yet, but how does it look above the flight deck

Re the discussion on helicopter facilities, we need to bear in mind that the Ocean is specifically designed as a helicopter carrier, whereas there is no equivalent in the Dutch navy to back up the Rotterdam.

Thanks Now I just have to find out the exact type and model for the RHIB, so I can finish my drawing of that and put it on Bulwark
