Of course you are right Odysseus1980. The ship was actually entered service in 1902, but the 1907 date was probably due to someone confusing 1 with 7.
Any way both Californian mentioned will be done. When will that be, is anybody's guess ☺

Yes, I concur! It sure looks more "Cunardish" now! Novice, you're right, all ships prefixed as Royal Mail Steamers, were commanded by RNR-officers. It's interesting to note that Capt Edward J. Smith, the ill-fated commander of the R.M.S. Titanic not only was a Lieutenant Commander in the RNR, but also commanded three of White Star Line's biggest ships: The Adriatic (1907) and Olympic (1911), before landing his final billet.

Carpathia's Captain Rostron later commanded Caronia, Carmania, Lusitania, Aulania, Mauretania, Ivernia, Andania, Saxonia, Carmania again, Mauretania again, and finally Berengaria as Commodore of the Line. He would've been Lusitania's 1st Officer on her maiden voyage in 1907, but was promoted to Captain and received command of Bresica the day before Lusitania's maiden voyage.

Captain Stanley Lord, of the SS Californian has been exonerated by science. There were extenuating circumstances due to nature that caused issue with first the lookouts failing to see the iceberg due to a sea mirage. And those same conditions to cause the issues with them seeing the Titanic as a different vessel as well as Titanic passengers & crew seeing the Californian as a different vessel, creating the "ghost steamship" that both captains "saw". If anyone could be blamed for the Californian not responding to the Titanic's emergency, it's both ship's radio operators, the Titanic's for brushing off the Californian's operator's attempt at an Ice Warning, and the Californian's for going to bed at the end of his shift and not having someone familiar with Morse code listening at least.

Israel's fledgling merchant navy turned any where for ships during its early history. One such vessel purchased was the SS Artsa, acquired in 1949, and used on Mediterranean services till 1963. The ship was built in Germany as the fruit carrier Panther, used during WW2 as a U-boat depot ship Lech and after the was was sold to Italy, and converted into an emigrant ship. As the Mare Ligure she plied the Mediterranean and finally bought by Zim in 1949.
