David, I've checked with both photos and Alvama's New Mexico, after reconstruction, but before WW2, and it confirmed one suspicion I've had: your rows of portholes are way, way too symmetrical! There's no way that the interior space of the ship would line up so neatly, or, for that matter, that all wing or side compartments would have a porthole.
Since they're such prominent feature, I'd urge you to recheck the porthole configuration. Now, I'm not saying that Alvama's version is 100% accurate; it has, for instance the wrong hull color, but it'll give you a hunch of what to look for.

You're right, I took the portholes from a dry dock photo that appeared way too symmetircal; however, her portholes are nevertheless very symmetrical. I'll change them. Keep up the great work with the Penniy.

I rechecked my photo of New Mexico just after she left the yard; you're correct about the bow and stern, but the center is absolutely symmetrical, this version is more correct than the previous.

This is still Very Much a WIP.
