Though the SSM version of Tartar could indeed be fired from this launcher, as I recall, I am skeptical as to its value in anti-aircraft fire. It seems very unlikely you'd ever carry more than about four of any given weapon, and you'd be making major concessions for that. Why so badly mortgage the value of the ship in ASW, its actual mission, for what would remain a pretty uninspiring self-defense missile capability?

If you want a Type 12 variant with Tartar missiles look this:

I agree but thought what would be the cheapest ship with Tartar and a mid/West Atlantic escort would not have to fight very many long range aircraft ?

Thanks JSB

Yes Hoods is better ! (both visually and design wise but then he does have 2273 posts ;)

My latest try,
This one has 16+ 32 reloads ( 48 total - say 27 Tartar + 18 ASROC + 3 harpoons) and 2 directors.

I don't really understand how to properly weight stuff to see if it will fit but I have basically swapped 4.5's for the Mk 112's and a Limbo for Torps. Then added a 40mm but my ship is stretched a bit to compensate (losing a bit of speed as same power so 27Kn ? rather than 30 Kn) (but maybe my radars are too heavy :-( ).

Still very WIP as I need lost of electrical stuff added, coms etc.

Thanks JSB

Is there a need for two launchers?

Much though I often sing the praises of commonality and such, I'd much, much, much, much rather just have a Mk 22 GMLS aft.

My idea was to make a cheap ship around the Mk.112 launcher (as a minimum Tartar) if that doesn't work then I think I cant really do any better then Hoods so will give up this thread.

If you want to go the box launcher route, I might suggest something more like the Sea Sparrow launcher, spitting Tartar.

Mk 112 just trains and elevates much too slowly to be a very good AAW launcher, IMHO.
