A very nice effort. I join the above critique about the early, as completed, light AA configuration. AFAIK the usual fit for battleships, in the pre-war era, is 4 quad 1.1" mounts and 6 to 12 0.5" water cooled machine guns. All small AA positions had added protection in the form of bulwarks as stipulated by the King's committee of 1940.
The North Carolina as completed had no fire control radars (which you removed from the Mk.37 5" directors) but from the 16" directots (Mk.34?) you have forgotten to remove the radars. Also you need to remove the surface search SG radars from both masts, as they were introduced only in 1942.
The North Carolina was the first ship with the CXAM-1 radar (the predecessor of SK)
BTW, oddly enough the first ships to have radar were not the battleships, but cruisers.

That kind of makes sense, though - very early radars were not much use for fire-control (but were still useful for search), so would have suited a scouting cruiser better than a battleship that'd just be lighting up friendlies anyway, I think?

I have three dozen of US battleships (& ! battlecruisers !) 1928-1936 studies (some never-seen before ).
Are you interested to draw it

The AA fit changed considerably on all the USN surface combatants throughout the years (but especially on the BB-55 class...) so I wouldn't expect to get it absolutely "perfect"... each refit added and subtracted various guns in different places.

I don`t suppose they`re from the USN Spring styles book?

You must think beyond the "USN Springsharp book" (1911-1925 ; 1939-1944) but staying on very reliable sources

Okay I've fixed what I could and short of plans or a good drawing I can't find the actual placement for the .5 MGs so I've stuck with the 20mms as she was configured in early 1942.

I fully agree for the "perfect", BUT:

Despite numerous modifications AA, we can draw some MAJOR PERIODS, for the North-Carolina BB's such as:
- as comissionned (spring 1941), whithout radar & with 4 quadruples 1,1" AA, a dozens of 0,5" MGs
- by february/september 1942, with radars, camo, & numerous 20mm guns.
- maybe during mid 1943 ?
- mid 1944 refit
- postwar (1946), training-ship (with less AA guns)
