A small rain, for the beginning :D
I am still searching the latest HR pics of Aquitaine on outfitting at Lorient shipyard by early january 2011

PS: You need to really improve the propellers
Thanks a lot for the pictures!!

I only had front pictures of the actual ship. I based myself mostly on the Euronaval models and DCNS 3D video that has pretty details. But it seems that there are still some changes in the overall design. This side pictures is very good for me!

Do you have a higher resolution picture of the side view of the model? (for the prop and shaft)

About the front part of the real ship, the work on it is not done yet. I think the final result will be similar to the Euronaval model (not the 3D video).

Do you know what is the black holl on the hangar you circled in green?

I'll try to do the corrections tonight or tomorrow morning.

These are rather attractive ships I'll have to say, even though I try to never bring aesthetics into judging a ship design.

Finally having a SYLVER bay is a bonus too. That's what's operationally holding the Lafayettes back. Good patrol boats and ASW assets but a bit pricey for just that without a multi-mission role.
Agree (except that they are good ASuW assets, not ASW: no torpedoes, no sonar, only a Prairie Masker)
The Lafayette did had the place for 16 Aster (or MICA-VL) missile. But without a proper 3D radar, there were no immediate interest. And now, the empty space is not empty anymore (living spaces increased)...

A side note for Colombamike
(Colombamike vous savez que j'ai l'intention de faire de nombreux navires de la marine nationale)
That said, I find this drawing moving along nicely, and hope to see it completed soon.
Very fine work polluxdeltaseven

I made some improvement on my drawing, including a little modification of the overall shape:

What do you think? I'm still not sure about what prop and shaft design (not talking about colors) is better.
And I still have to add the weapons. Does somebody know what kind of light weaponery will be fitted on the FREMM? I heard about remote controled 20mm guns on the front sponsons, but what model exactly? And what about the two back guns above the helipad? (probably 12,7mm, but I'm not sure they are fixed weapons).

if I'd design these ships, I would put all oto melara's on it, so marlins and hitroles. but as I don't..... I have no idea.

The French prefer having as much French weapons as possible on their ships. We had an exception with the OTO 76mm (well, actually, we did a LOT of exception in favour of the Italians on the FREMM and moreover Forbin designs...), but I think we'll have French light gunery on the FREMM.

"Polluxdeltaseven", for definitively finish the FREMM, I advise you to wait a few months, history that the the Aquitaine frigate make its sea-trials (and better pics would become available....)

Are you interested to draw more French ships (Advansea/SM-25 concept, EDA-R, MPC ect...) :?:

Hello Mike!

That's what I'll do for the FREMM. There is to much detail on the ship that can't be done before the real ship first trials (and even then, we saw with the Forbin that modifications were made after the first sea trials).
I wanted to do as much as possible on this ship before the end of the month as I'm going on a "business" trip in Africa and Mayotte for two months, with poor internet connections but still plenty of time to draw what-if derivatives of the FREMM ;)

As for my other projects, I started the EDA-R two days ago. The main hull is finished but I still have some difficulties to find a decent side view of the elevator mobile system.
The ship herself is 90% done, I'll post the WIP tomorrow I think.

Advansea, SMX-25, DCNS' FlexBlue, MPC etc... are very interresting concepts I'd enjoy drawing, but I'm not sure I'll have the time to do so before leaving.
I'll probably collect as pictures and datas as possible on my hard-drive in order to draw some of them during rainy nights at the hotel
