How big is the shipping line? LNG transports are pretty specialised and require a lot of specialised training, both in terms of crew and management, so you might consider spinning the LNG ships off into a seperate division or company.

I was going for most major industries still being nationalised...

this is my next project, in my AU New Cromer has a flurising nuclear power industry and accepts and reprocesses waste and used fuel from the UK, Japan and else were. as well has having a large nuclear waste repository that accepts foreign waste for a charge...
the ship would be owned and operated by a division of BNFL (a UK Company) (in reality defuncted but in my AU still going strong)

Those are some nice looking merchant ships!

unable to find much reference for Nuclear waste/fuel carrying ships (hardly surprising due to the nature of there loads) i've found my self forced to tinker, using a small LNG design, the idea is the ship will have the systems ie cooling equipment etc from my reference earlier, Flasks of Waste, Fuel etc are lowered onto the deck by shore side facilities then the ship own overhead crane can lower the flasks into the holds for transport were cooling equipment is hooked up to the flasks while the materials are transported.

I still have to increase the hull depth to allow for double hull' double collision bulk heads at the front and associated pipework and cabling for the coolant systems and additional if required shielding...

I like the nuclear waste transport ship and the waste-for-profit idea ;) .

Honestly, I suspect the reason you can't find any info on nuclear waste transports is because it isn't a thing. As I understand it they load the stuff into a custom container and then they put it on a standard freighter.

In most cases yes that would appear to be the case. There are designs out there for specialist vessels as shown earlier.

In my AU if I am running regular shipments and wanting to keep all tickerdy boo, with the appropriate agency's then I thought a purpose built vessel would be best.

http://www.wnti.co.uk/media/31596/FS5_EN_MAR13_V2.pdf

Specs include, cooling systems, double bottom, double forward bulkheads for collision protection, back up communication systems, wash down system for emergency situations or accidental contamination, additional tracking systems, provision to carry armed security (due yo the nature of cargo).

The ship will be used to bring in spent fuel for reprocessing, waste for verification and storage, and will take out reprocessed fuel rods and and packaged verified waste for storage in the country of origin, (service offered to countries not having there own verification plants) or not wanting to pay to use New Cromer's waste repository.
