During the building and at the time she was launched, she was regarded as the best armed sail ship ever build, and her heavy wood hull was constructed in such way that she could survive bigger ships. she was described as the ship of terror, a ship that was build to go up against bigger opponents and win the fight.

But 2 year later when she was handed over to the Navy, she was already outdated. new type of armor (steal) was come, and the grenade had also come. and the same year the commando was taken, a year later it was removed from active list, for newer sail again.

in front of CL Viking, a sail ship, unknown for me, but it might still be around that one!
in front of that again, 4 torpedo boats of Lyn class
and to the left of them: one of the commando ship, or an older "CL"

Actually, Henrik, that's not the Norske Løve of 1735, rather it is a reconstruction (based on Willem van de Velde the Elder's guache drawing from ca. 1656) of the first ship with that name from 1634. In 1653 she was extensively rebuilt and her armament increased from 40 guns to 48-51. She participated in many battles against the Swedes until broken up in 1666. The second one was a substantially larger vessel of 78-86 guns, launched the following year. Since I've already drawn the Christianus Quintus (1665, 86 guns), her half-sister, and am planning to 'bucketize her, I'm also going to draw that ship.

are you absolutely certain on that. if you are the Norwegian Digital-museum is wrong.

Digital -museum is an government owned web based museum. What they do is visit every single museum in Norway and take pictures of every thing they have, and digitizing documents. But the min thing for them is to show pictures and documents on things that was never shown to public.


Digital-museum had that ship listed as "den Norske Løve" 1735

but there have been several other ships with the same name (one was based on french design, other...? that's all I know):

but this one is also marked as 1735!!


But it all might come down to some error in marking of picture from the museum side. for when we think of it, they have millions of pictures out there...

They are dead-panned wrong, my friend! (I found a wrong date in a Danish exhibition about the Battle of Fehmarn (Oct. 13, 1644), at one time, which stated it was fought in, I believe it said February!
Still to this date, my wife is afraid to go with me to Copenhagen, lest I go back to that museum and have them correct the date! (She sternly forbade me that one time...)

But, yes, I'm 100% positive. Just check your other references for Danish shipbuilding during the period of King Christian IV!
And, yes, there's been some 11 (!) ships with that name!

There have been eleven (11) vessels named "Norske Løve" in the danish navy (which was Danish-Norwegian until 1814). The first "Norske Løve" was built at the naval dockyard at Engelsborg at Slotø (Castle Island) in Nakskov Fjord. She was build according David Balfours drawings by the scotsman Daniel Sinclair, who was shipbuilder for King Christian IV. "Norske Løve" was build from 1631 to 1634, and send in service 1635.
"Norske Løve" was active the next twelve year and participated in several seebattles. Amongst them the Battle in Listerdyb May 16th 1644, the seebattle at Kolberger Heide Juli 1st 1644 and in the blockade of Goetenborg in 1645. She was laid up in 1653, but there are some conflicting informations which confuse it with another "Norske Løve", who was launched in Lübeck in 1654. This one had the same size, crew and armament. Some history claims that "Norske Løve" from Slotø should have continued in service until 1666, where she went down in a storm south of Stavanger (Norway).
But the same fate happened to "Norske Løve" from Lübeck. In the same storm!
Another "Norske Løve" is from 1764. The keel was laid dowm at Orlogsværftet (the Naval Dockyard) in Copenhagen in 1764 Capitaine and Fabriquemester Frederik Michael Krabbe and probably completed in 1766. 70 canons and a crew at 465 men.
