Very nice drawing Hood lots of Leander variants to do I have been very light heartly chasing up info and data on the last configuration of HMNZS Canterbury and adding some good old Aust / NZ sporting Banter at least we can do the kiwis at cricket !!! not much eles !!
this is very much a aussie / kiwi thing and I suspect many on the board will not get the funny side of this The actual ship I think is close as I can get.

I've been expecting this one. I adjoin Hood's feelings of the old drawing, IMO it always looked bit too funky...

Of the versions, the Indian ones migth be intresting to see, and Godovari needs redrawing but the orginal (drawingwise) wasen't based on the old leander drawing...but its still bit crappy and obsolete.
Ill see if I can come up with it.

Nice one, Hood! I'd been looking at the Leanders the other day and kept thinking "No, there's no way the Leanders looked that boring, all the photos make them look quite pretty..."

Superb drawing of one of my favorite class.I saw one of these,Jupiter hit London bridge once after a visit to HMS Belfast.

Thanks guys, I'll be working through the various British mods (some quite extensive changes for aging ships really, certanly mainly "lumps 'n' bumps" were added during the 1980s.
Batch II with Ikara, Exocet and SeaCat and Exocet and Seawolf are the main ones I'll be doing next.

Soon the County Class will get a makeover too.
Type 21, 22 and 23 also look pretty funky too and need work. I know MihoshiK has redone the Type 22 Batch III but I may take a bash at the rest eventually.

Two more, both RN refits.


When plans to build a class of Ikara frigates ended due to economic cutbacks etc (Novice's excellent DS381 and the later pared down 391) several Leander Batch I frigates were rebuilt to accomodate Ikara. An extra Sea Cat was fitted aft. This is HMS Naiad as she appared in 1977.


Several Batch II Leanders later were refitted with Exocet SSMs and a third Sea Cat launcher replacing the 4.5in turret. Her UA-13 extended her ESM suite to the lower frequencies used by radars like 'Top Sail' and so possibly giving the frigate a useful passive targeting for the Exocets against the larger Soviet cruisers and Kievs. This simple refit was considered roughly equal in capability to a Type 21. This shows HMS Minerva after refit.
