I get that. but what would you use 24cm AA guns for? IIRC, the biggest AA guns build are 127mm, almost half that barrel diameter. unless you are fighting armoured spaceships I highly doubt you'd need them.

That is why

still makes no sense.
giant super ship? ok. doesn't work, has no purpose, but ok. your drawing.
80cm guns? yeah, that's the size driver for the ship. no use for them being on any ship, but ok, that's what it is sized around.
24cm AA guns? seriously, that's something like using an shotgun for killing ants. you will miss most, you will obliterate IF it gets into contact, but the it most likely won't.

why not? large guns reload slowly, so low rate of fire. they aim slowly, so you cannot aim as fast as the aircraft comes in. and you cannot take that many bullets in your magazine, because they are 150 kg or so a piece so not easily handled.

you don't size your guns with your ship, you size your guns with your target.

but if you really want them, draw them yourself. there is no reasoning that can make this gun work, so you cannot do it wrong.

Isn't it a fairly common myth about the H-45 that it should have sported 240mm AA capable secondaries?

H-45 itself is a myth. It's a design dreamed up by a guy on the Warship Projects Discussion Boards to see what it would take to fit eight Dora guns in battleship mountings.

I'm aware it's only a myth, I just noted that it includes the idea of an AA armament of 240mm guns... Maybe I worded it poorly.

The US Navy experimented for a time with a smoothbore 8" AA gun firing sub-caliber (4") guided shells, under the program name SAM-N-8 Zeus. This was shelved when it became obvious that (at least with the technology at the time) actual rocket-propelled missiles were a far better choice.

The USN, Kriegsmarine, and Royal Navy all fielded 152mm/155mm DP guns. As far as I'm aware, no serious effort has ever been applied to any sort of anti-aircraft gun of any larger size, never mind something so patently absurd as 240mm. The only conceivable role I can imagine for such a caliber would be firing small nuclear weapons to airburst in enemy formations. Of course, if you have nukes, one wonders why you need 800mm shells in the first place...

Seeing that the Germans never made 30mm weapons IIRC, its a bit of a blow to your argument, I'd expect the heavy AA guns would be the 10.5 cm FlaK 38 found on other German capital ships or, in twin turrets the heavier 12.8 cm FlaK 40, which would certainly have a better punch than a 240mm
