You can probably remove a lot of that middle superstructure. You have very little on it right now and there is no need to invent things to put there, rather save the top weight.

Hi Shipright,

That's pencilled in for ship's boats and the crane so far. I suspect that once it's done I may be able to drop the catapult but didn't want to do that until I had the boats in and able to see how they looked.

Yes, I finally have stopped mucking about with kids, work and paint.net and done some more drawing. I do hope it's been worth the wait, but here is the most recent set of revisions to the ship. I think all that's left to do is rails and rigging, but I'm hoping you can tell me what I've missed...

The hull shading and bilge keels start quite low, because I figured with 203mm wing mounts she's going to be rather more barge-like than a cruiser in all honesty should be, I think?

With conventional armament it would look...over-detailed (or maybe rather, over-radar'd) but still a good drawing. With the gatling turrets, it feels like concept art ripped from Metal Slug.

Hi Klagldsf,

Yeah, I was a little concerned over the number of radar sets myself. To be honest, my natural inclination was probably for too many anyway, and I exceeded that on account of the primary role being air defence. That said, I figure minimal set would be the Freya / height finder on the aft mast, the rangefinder sets (though I've probably gone over on the actual set, it's intended to represent a doppler-type set below a more conventional set - the idea being the Freya would pick stuff up at long range, height finder and doppler set would then generate position and vector), I figure the big dish Wurzburg-Ds have to stay - with all four Stupid Guns on the centreline, it'd feel a little bare with only two fire directors per side? - which brings us down to the little-dish Wurzburg-Ds and I freely admit that I plucked a number out of a hat for those. Does somebody who actually knows something about this sort of thing (as opposed to playing, badly, at it) have a suggestion?

With regards to the guns, yes, they're stupid, although I hadn't even heard of Metal Slug. Probably a good thing, as I'd be terrible at that game - my reactions are slightly better than a dead sloth, but not by much.

To be honest, the more I work on this ship, the less I like it, but, the perfectionist in me insists that I at least finish the thing before applying the lessons learned to a better design.

Whatever you end up fitting it with don't expect the electronics to survive for long once you fire up the main gun. The vibrations are going to make the radio tubes blow left and right.

OK, well, let's just imagine a giant technicolour KAPOW over some of the rangefinders, then ... how's this?

Also, Thiel, not ignoring you, unsure how to improve the drawing in light of that comment other than to can it. Do you have a better suggestion?

Can't say much about the workability with those big gatlings turrets, but style-wise it looks good to me. One point though, you might want to replace the 203mm guns with the new model.

Thanks DG_Alpha, will do.

Also, I don't know if you recognised the bilge keels or not, but they're taken from Prinz Eugen - thoroughly impressed by the whole series, by the way - shall I credit you for that?

Regards,
Adam
