Polar ASW-Helicopter-carrier series
The Polar class. was deigned during an era where there was important for Haram Navy to have purpose build ASW-hunter/killer. but late in the design process the role for these vessel changed to an more multi-role. The Hangar was designed as an flex deck: one day it can be an hospital, for next day be used as an transport and landing of special forces in an assault, for later be used as an escort.
Things Haram learned from Polar class Batch 1, resulted in the more known 140 meter long Polar class Batch 2 and 3. There have been argument that here radar suit is to powerful for here intended operation, but Haram Navy say, when she operate in an fleet, here radar is an part of the multi layered defense.
But this class of ships had many big problems:
- Lack of space. even in the Hanger, when two Helicopters was down for repair, there was almost no room for the other helicopters, and they had to stay on deck.
- crew accommodation was not good enough for an modern Navy.
- Engine problems was among the biggest weakness for this class. when both LM2500 run at max power, there was an several problem with overheating in the exhaust system. Haram Royal Navy solved it to some decree by pumping a lot of water and ammonia in to the exhaust, when the engine was running at high speed. they had even added water pipe around the exhaust system to try to cool it down. This solved it somewhat. but the class top speed was limited to only using the LM2500 at max power for limited time, thus put here incapable to operate with carrier.
- but the biggest problem for the class was stability, the class could'n operate 100% at the same time it followed an carrier in bad weather at high speed.
With all these problem, the Admiralty reassigned the entire class to school ship but also for use by the home-guard in local water, something this class managed very well out it's carrier.

Problems that Haram Royal Navy discovered on the Batch 1 was solved on Batch 2. among the things Haram did to the Batch two is:
- enlarged the hull
- funnel for LM2500
- improve Hangar and crew accommodation
- ship roll changed so what, she have become more an cross between and frigate and a small helicopter carrier and thus received improved armament in form of an larger VLS, with bigger more missiles.
The ship changes and improvement sat the steeping stone for Iceberg class Heavy ASW carrier-Escort and Polar Class Type A Batch 3 and Type B Batch 3 and 4.
The Batch 2 served along many of the older carrier in Haram Royal Navy giving and much needed improved area defense.
