a few comments on the first one:
- I have some doubts about the use of AEGIS. sure, it is capable, but I would think the burkeswarm would be an good AEGIS ship with the frigates having NTU or an replacement system for that on board.
- some parts problems: mainly the RAM looks a bit crude, the updated one might look better, and the 57mm is honking huge, I suggest using the Mk 3 here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/632 ... 2057mm.png
- the anchor will drop on the sonar dome

these are not all that could be said, but as these are WIP I leave it at this.

Current Italian studies "Pattugliatore d’Altura Multirolo" (PAM)

(hopefully to be build by Marinette-Marine ?)

Forget all current British (Type 26), Dutch or German designs (too european for the yankee).

A possible cooperation with the japanese navy was possible for a common ship design......by late 2020's

Today (2010's) think :
- monohull (think trimaran hull by late 2020's)
- 125/140 meters
- 27/31 knots
- one 57 or 76 or 127mm forward
- 32 to 48 VLS (Mk 41 or Mk 57)
- 1 or 2 CIWS (RAM or laser)
- 2 x 25mm gun
- hangar for helico & uav
- ASW sonar & so
- integrated mast, compact (stealth) superstructure
- long range
- 100/120 crew

I'd steer well clear of a Sa'ar derivative since it's designed with very different requirements in mind. It's fairly short legged (Wiki says 3500nm at an unspecified speed, but based on similarly sized and powered warships I'm guessing 15kts at most) and rather more damning it has a really short endurance. This isn't a big problem when your mission is limited to the Eastern Mediterranean. It quite another story if you're going to be traipsing all over the world for several months at a time. The fact that the UNREP facilities are rather crude doesn't help either, and the aviation facilities are simply too small.

Yes, I'm skeptical of upsizing any of the Israeli ships. They're designed for a very certain use profile (not that there's anything wrong with that), and I think their in-service utility would suffer badly if taken further afield.

I am only using the basic design, not the ship itself.

yes, but the basic design is based around the relatively large weapons, radars and engines for the hull, getting it's own set of problems (low range being one of them, due to large engines and small fuel tanks, the other main one being stability under oceangoing conditions)

If you come up with one that is good enough, I'd submit it for consideration.

So there is no way a frigate that looks like the Sa`ar could work for the USN? And the problem with replacing AEGIS is that I don`t know a system that the USN would realistically choose.
